Silver Shoes music feels comfortable and familiar as a reunion with a longtime comrade, Old Friend is an appropriate title for their most recent offering. Silver Shoes is comprised of the duo of Maureen Finlon and John Finnigan. Their crisp vocals and clean sound are carried through on every track making for a pleasant listening journey. To help them along, Finlon and Finnigan assembled a band of ace musicians and friends from high places. The record starts off in good fashion and showcases Silver Shoe’s tight harmonies and crack musicianship.
All in all, visiting with Old Friend is time well spent.

Silver Shoes Review posted on www.insurgentcountry,com Germany
It’s not the most perfect fit, but Silver Shoes belongs next to Nanci Griffith, just ahead of Shawn Colvin. Maureen Finlon’s voice is a beautiful fit with a country-lilt to the songs. These are country songs, which tap into American Folk and Rock. If you listen to what Silver Shoes is doing with these country-fried melodies, you’ll see how much these songs spin right out of the narrowly defined Country category. When you start bringing together all of those sounds, what emerges is more than you might first expect.

Brian Kalinec is a Houston-based singer-songwriter with East Texas roots who has performed in the Houston area since 1976. While he focuses primarily on original music, he enjoys performing a variety of classic folk and country songs as well, particularly with Jeff’s smooth melodic guitar style and powerful harmonies. He especially looks forward to harmonizing and picking when Jeff pulls out some fine legendary cowboy song that the two of them may or may not have ever performed together. “Jeff keeps me on my musical toes,” says Brian.
Also a native Texan, Jeff Chambers has played with country dance bands since the ‘70’s. He enjoys singing classic country, western and swing tunes along with Brian’s hot guitar solos, and doing close harmony and picking guitar on Brian’s classic and original vocals.
Playing together since 2001, Brian and Jeff do everything from the soft melodic love ballad, country rock, folk, swing and rhythm and blues, cowboy songs and originals both hot and cool. If one of these guys knows half the song, they’ll do it for you! |
